This manual shows how an audit firm runs its system of quality management in SQMTrove: setting up the firm and its people, assessing quality risks and designing responses across the components of ISQM 1, running the annual independence campaign, keeping the client and engagement registers, performing engagement quality reviews under ISQM 2, monitoring, finding root causes and remediating, dealing with inspections by the regulators and with complaints, and signing the annual evaluation — then producing the inspection-ready pack.
It follows one fictional firm, Okafor Bello & Co, Chartered Accountants, from the day it opens SQMTrove in January 2026 to September 2026: the risk assessment, the busy season, an inspection by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC), a practice monitoring visit by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), remediation and the annual evaluation as at 30 June 2026. The firm audits a listed bank, an insurer, a pension fund administrator, a listed manufacturer, large private companies, a foundation, a federal agency and small companies, so the manual shows how the rules differ by category of client. Every screenshot was taken from SQMTrove running that illustration, so the figures in the text match the screens.
How to read it. Each chapter covers one area and starts with the standard behind it, what happens in the illustration and short use cases. Each numbered step has a screenshot and three parts: Who (the role that normally does it — SQMTrove enforces roles), Why (what the step achieves and the rule behind it) and What to do (the actions, in order). Numbered orange markers on a screenshot point to the fields and buttons named with the same number. Screenshots of whole pages show the menu on the left.
The standards. SQMTrove follows ISQM 1, ISQM 2 and ISA 220 (Revised) as issued by the IAASB, the IESBA Code as adopted in Nigeria, and, where the firm switches them on, the Nigerian FRC Audit Regulations 2020 and FRC Rules. The appendix on standards and regulations lists the references. Confirm the current position with the standard or the regulator before relying on a rule in this manual.
